Welcome to Learning Communities web site at Fullerton CollegeLearning Communities are groups of two or more classes where students and faculty integrate ideas, strengthen interaction, and cross disciplinary boundaries. The classes incorporate active learning, greater student involvement, and include ideas from other disciplines. The learning communities model has been shown to increase student retention, and success. In the first year of the project, students will be encouraged to enroll in all courses in the learning community. In these linked classes, assignments may be shared, similar topics may be examined from various perspectives, and faculty will focus on reinforcement of ideas through multiple approaches. In addition, expanded support services for those students enrolled in learning community classes are being developed. The Learning Communities Program links student experiences to the learning process, increases interaction between students and faculty, and provides students with skills that will allow them to work successfully in other endeavors.
